Social Event (April 22nd, 2013)

The conference dinner will take place on April 22nd, starting around 8:00 pm at Terraço Itália Restaurant, located on the 41st floor of the Circolo Italiano Building, placed within the heart of São Paulo city. The Circolo Italiano Building (or Edifício Itália, in Portuguese) is a 168-metre tall 46-story skyscraper, built from 1956 to 1965 and projected by the Architect Franz Heep. It signalizes a period of modernization and affluence of São Paulo city that actually started in the 1940s. The building has been conceived by the Italian immigrants, whose society had its former seat on the terrain where the Circolo Italiano Building is presently located. Its construction had a symbolic importance for the Italian immigrants, for it represented their socio-economic uprise, whose history in the country started in the coffee plantations in the 19th century, culminating in the 20th century as one of the most important communities for the cultural background of São Paulo city.

To go for the dinner, take the green line of the subway at Trianon-Masp station on Paulista Avenue towards Vila Madalena station and get off at Consolação station. Then, take the yellow line towards Luz station and get off at República station. Look for the exit to Avenida Ipiranga. Then, walk for approximately one block towards Edifício Itália. In your way back to the hotel, take a taxi, since the subway closes at midnight and it is not advisable to walk in the downtown area of São Paulo late at night.
