SCD-1 satellite under test by LIT - first national satellite, launched in 1993.
SCD-1 is launched. It is the first Brazilian data collection satellite, entirely developed by INPE, in Cape Canaveral, Florida (USA).

SCD-1 was the first Brazilian satellite in orbita and one of the three original MECB goals. Other two were: to get a national launcher and a national basis, which were not fully achieved until the end of the program

It is launched INPE’s Geographic Information System, now being distributed for free and receiving automatic updates. SPRING software would build a huge user base. Today it is still distributed, with increasing emphasis on the use of free software (LINUX).

Solar Cell I Experiment (ECS-I) was placed on board SCD-1 with the aim of testing space solar cells developed by LAS researchers in cooperation with Polytechnic School of USP.

In plasma processes area, two projects were created at Associated Plasma Laboratory (LAP), dealing with the synthesis of diamond films by a plasma torch generated by ARCJET and processing surface of materials for space applications using ionic implantation by plasma immersion (3IP)
