• CBERS satellite at LIT. CBERS program began in 1988. First satellite of this program was launched in 1999.
  Brazil and China sign a cooperation agreement aimed at developing two remote sensing satellites (CBERS-1 and CBERS-2).
• The Center for Satellite Tracking and Control (CRC) is inaugurated.
• The protocol that gave rise to the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Program is signed. (China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite – CBERS).
• The Assessment of the change in Amazon Forest Cover Project, later called Amazon Deforestation Project (PRODES), and Amazon Monitoring Program (AMZ) are initiated. PRODES remains active and is the primary source of information for Brazilian government decisions to combat Amazon deforestation.
