• A. Penzias and R. Wilson, while using a reflective antenna built for radio astronomy, find the primordial background radiation, one of the supports for the Big Bang theory defense.

Soviet Venera 3 probe is launched, which reached Venus on February 16th 1966, maintaining contact by radio with Earth constantly. It became the first terrestrial object to land on another planet, although this has not been controlled landing.
