Free catalog of CBERS images becomes available on the Internet. This initiative marks a huge change in policy for dissemination of this information and INPE becomes the world leader in distribute images, even only in the national territory.
Since 2004, INPE provides free access over the Internet to its satellite images catalog.
- INPE’s supercomputer ranks Brazil among the eight countries with high processing capacity in numerical weather forecast and climate.
- Production of the first regional climate change scenarios in South America, which led to a boom in scientific area of climate change impacts in Brazil.
- Receiving the "Norbert Gerbier-Mumm International Award" from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) along with other authors of the paper "Review of mesospheric temperature trends" (best paper about climate change in the atmosphere published in 2003. (See: Rev. Geophys, 41 (4), 10.1029/2002RG000121, 2003.).
- National Network for Monitoring Lightning becomes available on internet.
